Origin of the Rural Doctor's Day

The Rural Doctor's Day is a special date on the calendar established by the Congress of the Argentine Nation through Law Regulation No. 24448, in honor and commemoration of the birth of Dr. Esteban Laureano Maradona , who was born on July 4 of 1895 in Esperanza, province of Santa Fe.

Esteban Laureano Maradona was an Argentine rural doctor, naturalist, writer and philanthropist, recognized throughout the country for his modest and selfless attitude with which he carried out his profession. Laureano Maradona, spent 50 years in a remote town of Formosa, Estanislao del Campo, practicing medicine.

He dedicated himself to collaborate and intensely help the indigenous communities of the region in different areas of life such as social, economic and cultural. Besides that, Esteban Laureano Maradona, wrote important scientific works on anthropology, flora and fauna; He gave up all kinds of payments and on the contrary donated his money and time to those most in need despite having had a good life in the city due to the social class to which he belonged.
