Where does Reader's Day come from?

Reader's Day is an initiative of the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies of the Nation, which has been celebrated since 2012. It was chosen on August 24 , because on this day the anniversary of the birth of one of the most Argentine writers is commemorated. great of universal literature: Jorge Luis Borges.

Borges, was born in the year 1899 and is considered one of the most outstanding authors of the world literature of the 20th century. His vast work includes short stories, essays, poems, and novels. His work is fundamental in literature and universal thought.

His work has been the subject of careful and in-depth analysis, as well as multiple interpretations. During his life, and after his death, Jorge Luis Borges has been awarded many prizes and was a candidate for three decades for the Nobel Prize in Literature. He died on June 14, 1986, at the age of 86, in Geneva Switzerland.

In this way, Reader's Day not only seeks to promote reading among Argentines, but also to grant "recognition to the work and career of the highest national literary figure."
