Every June 6 the Engineering Day is celebrated in Argentina ; a special date with which it is intended to remember one of the most important engineering events in our country and also to raise awareness about its usefulness for the development of Argentina .
Next we will tell you how the Engineering Day was born in Argentina.
History of Engineering Day in Argentina
Engineering Day in Argentina is celebrated on this date because on June 6, 1870 , the first Argentine civil engineer graduated from the Department of Exact Sciences of the University of Buenos Aires. This was Augusto Huergo, who had outstanding work in consolidating and carrying out important engineering projects in Argentina.
Some of these projects were the canalization of the Tercero, Cuarto and Quinto rivers to increase the flow of the Salado; the Pacific railway from Buenos Aires to Villa Mercedes and the port of San Fernando with a careening dam that was the first to be built in the country.
In 1876, Huerga was appointed director of the Riachuelo Works, where he built a port for large-scale ships. In addition, he was especially interested in the development of engineering that would facilitate the country's inland navigation.
Thus, due to the importance and in homage to Augusto Huergo, the Argentine Center of Engineers (CAI), established in 1895 that every June 6 the Argentine Engineering Day would be celebrated.
