How was Flag Day born?

Flag Day is celebrated on June 20 because this day but in 1820 Manuel Belgrano , creator of this national symbol, died. The date was established by law 12,361 of June 8, 1938 by the then president Roberto M. Ortiz. As of 2011 , Flag Day is an immovable holiday by national decree.

The flag of Argentina was created on February 27, 1812 by Manuel Belgrano , within the framework of the struggle for the independence of the United Provinces of the Río de la Plata. The original flag is said to have been lost and some versions of the story say that it had only two stripes; others say there were three but it is not clear what was the disposition of each one of them.

The light blue and white colors come from the national cockade. The sun of the flag was added on February 25, 1818 in honor of the Inca God Inti. The flag with the sun was used in institutions and official events until 1985 when it was arranged to be placed on all Argentine flags.
