How was Folklore Day born?

Folklore Day is celebrated on August 22 because, on this same date, Unesco established World Folklore Day in 1960. This day was chosen in memory of August 22, 1846 , the day on which that a letter was published in London in which the term "Folklore" was used for the first time.

On August 22, 1960, the First International Folklore Congress also took place, presided over by the Salta folklorologist, Augusto Raúl Cortazar. In this event, representatives from more than 30 countries met who agreed with UNESCO to declare this date as World Folklore Day.

This term comes from two words in the English language. One is "folk" which means people or people, and the other is "lore", which means science. Therefore, folklore is the knowledge of the people or the town.

Folklore or Folklore, is a word that is associated with different aspects of the culture of a country, which are transmitted from generation to generation through the passage of time orally or in writing. Within these are grouped beliefs, myths, legends, ceremonies, dances, music, stories, crafts, typical gastronomy, literary compositions, customs and much more.
