Why is Independence Day celebrated?
Independence Day is celebrated on July 9 because on a day like this but in the year 1816, the Declaration of Independence of Argentina was made by the Congress of Tucumán. In this act the formal rupture of the ties of political dependence of the United Provinces of the Río de la Plata with the Spanish crown was declared.
The Declaration of Independence was made in the House of Tucumán ; which is located in the city of San Miguel de Tucumán , where the assembly made up of 33 deputies from all the provinces met. Ten days later, Congress also renounced all foreign domination. This act is also part of the Spanish-American independence movement from the Spanish empire.
Today, the Casa de Tucumán has been a museum and a national historical monument since 1941. There, every July 9 , the “General Aráoz de Lamadrid” Military High School performs the changing of the guard to remember and pay tribute to the place where our independence was proclaimed.
