Origin of the Geologist's Day in Argentina
The Geologist's Day has its origin in the Directive Commission of the Argentine Geological Association, which recalls that on July 31, 1947 the Argentine Center of Geologists was formed; a union organization that brings together all geology professionals in their different specialties.
This institution was the one that represented and defended the just aspirations related to professional practice. But he also delved into the improvement and prestige of the activity and ensured professional ethics.
Thus, depending on his activities, he summoned an extraordinary assembly on June 9, 1948 at the Argentine Museum of Natural Sciences. In said assembly it was decided to declare and institute that every year on that date the Geologist's Day be celebrated.
However, another version tells that by the year 1945 geologists had begun to graduate from different universities in Argentina such as Buenos Aires, La Plata and Córboda. However, these professionals could not find an association that would look after their professional interests. Thus, Agustín Monteverde, Raúl Muller and Juan Candiani began to meet in order to bring together all their colleagues in order to meet that need.
It is said that the first meeting was called on June 9, 1947 and that is why the Geologist's Day is celebrated on this date.
